UDC: The United Daughters of the Confederacy Captain Sally Tompkins 2123 will meet Wednesday at noon in the upper level of the Putnam County Library. Please call 528-9183 if you have a Confederate ancestor or further questions.
PC ELECTION: The Putnam County Election Commission will meet on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., at the election commission office, 705 County Services Drive, to receive certification of the voting machines to be used in early voting and on Election Day, March 6, 2012. The voting machine technicians will be present to certify the machines as ready for use in the election. You are not required to attend this meeting, but, as always, you are welcome.

TEEN CHALLENGE: Teen Challenge of the Upper Cumberland will have a Concerned Persons group to begin meeting on Thursdays from Feb. 2 to March 29, from 6-7:30 p.m. at 702 School Drive, Gainesboro. Workbooks are required and cost $10. This group is for those who want to help someone close to them who is enslaved by a life-controlling problem and those who are suffering the consequences of a loved one's life-controlling problem. CAMERA CLUB: Cookeville Camera Club will hold a "Beginners and Beyond" photography class for the months of February and March, starting Feb. 2. Classes will be held Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. at 1st Presbyterian Church, 28 North Dixie, in Cookeville. Students will be taught how to use their cameras more effectively, so they can take better photos. The classes will be slow-paced and hands-on.The cost is $4 per class or you can become a member of Cookeville Camera Club for $25 and attend free. FISH FRY: The Algood Lions Club will hold a fish fry on Friday from 4-7 p.m., at the Algood Community Center. Price is $8 for fried fish, French fries, hush puppies, cole slaw, drink and dessert. Children's portions and take-outs available. To avoid a price increase, due to the increased prices of fish and other items served, all dinners will now include two pieces of fish, dine in or take out. Seconds will no longer be available. If Putnam County Schools are closed due to inclement weather, fish fry will be cancelled. Profits go to the many worthwhile projects the Lions Cub is involved in.

BOOK SALE: Twice Told Tales, a used book store, located at the Putnam County Library, will be open Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Also open Friday from 4-6 p.m. for members of the Putnam County Library Friends only. Memberships available at the door. Hardcover books for $2, paperback books for 50 cents and children's books for 25 cents. Book donations accepted anytime. See librarian at the front desk.

FOOTBALL PARTY: The Cookeville High School class of 1954 will host a party at Holiday Inn Express to watch the big game, beginning at 4 p.m. All who graduated in the 50s or anyone who would like to visit are invited. Bring a covered dish and eat with the class, or just watch the game and visit.

GENEALOGY: Calvin Dickinson will be a special speaker at the Upper Cumberland Genealogical Association meeting at the Putnam County Library in the conference room at 2 p.m. Dickinson is the author of several books and is a former TTU history professor. His topic will be "Civil War in the Upper Cumberland." You do not need to be a member to attend.
OPRY: For good music and family fun, come to Therold's Little Opry. Begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Fox Elementary Cafeteria building in Gainesboro. Featuring Linda Fox, Back Porch Pickers and Anderson Brothers and Browngrass. Held the second Saturday of each month.
